Semester Overview: Objectives
Objectives/Goals:
- Throughout the semester students will learn to be experimental and spontaneous in their artmaking processes.
- Students will consider their five basic senses as a starting point for artistic production.
- Students will be inspired by various historical and contemporary artworks.
- Students will learn to appreciate both objective/realistic works of art as well as non-representational artistic expressions.
- Students will utilize the elements of art and the principles of design in the creation and analytical discussion of their works.
Essential Questions:
1. What everyday things do we learn and know about the
world through our sensory observations? 2. How does one translate or record a sensory perception visually? 3. How do humans “know” and “understand” things beyond the information provided through their senses? In other words, what is the “Sixth Sense” and does it exist? |
Enduring Ideas:
1. The world around us is beautiful and complex.
2. As living beings we perceive and understand the world around us through our senses. 3. Recording observations can be Objective and/or Subjective. 4. Humans creatively translate their sensory perceptions through mark making as a visual record. 5. Non-representational art can communicate meaning and/or a message. |
